If you know how to manage your fuel you'll make money learn to only fuel by the load and not by the week. Understanding you are running a business and you must understand the concept. Meaning soon as you finish orientation and run your first load make a name for yourself, show them that you are capable of running safe in a timely manner. They will run you according to how you run. Realizing that we're all human and we all make mistakes, but at the end of the day respect will get you a long way.
Management is always willing to help you as long as you approach in a respectful manner. If you lease it is ONLY a stepping stone to becoming an O/O. Building a work relationship with your dispatcher is a start to making money, turning down loads will cause you to go in the hole. You MUST understand that you're running a business and should do your research before jumping into something head first. If you do NOT understand the business side of the industry you will not understand leasing side no matter what company you drive for. Lease pay is 72% of the line haul with 8% of that going to maintance account which leaves you at 64% of the line haul. We normally run 2-3wks with about 4 days off and have never been in the hole. Loads are paying and freight has picked back up since the pandemic. This had to be changed and the forms resubmitted by the company to the unemployment office. My termination status and reason was flagged by unemployment, so I was forced to wait 3 weeks without ANY pay, before I could get my unemployment.

I have witnessed employees that have worked there for 10 plus years be terminated because another employee's son was brought in to take over the position. As if losing your livelihood isn't bad enough, regardless if you have a family or are a single income household, if you have worked there for 1 year or 30 years, if they no longer want you there you will be gone. Once you do lose your job they will make everything else as difficult as possible on you. They will also make you feel so uncomfortable just coming into work, it is a very tense and hostile work environment. They will also question every single move that you make, even if you have proved competent to perform certain tasks in the past. They will go out of their way to ask another employee about your work load and if you have completed certain tasks instead of asking you directly. Upper management (The CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER, this is who I worked under and had most contact with) is so unprofessional that they will not speak to you and walk right past you and speak to every other person around. If you are not one of the favorites, be prepared to lose your job for no given reason. If you know one of the owners or someone in upper management you will be fine- rules that other employees are expected to abide by will not apply to you. They plays favorites, this starts with the very top.
